How are the samurai doing? Will they make an appearance at BOYL?

Progressing slowly, could put in a small showing, but not really got anything planned for them, though a small contingent in the dungeon crawl might prove interesting! But I was think more Vikings

As previously stated the latest batch Of Lizardmen Coldone riders has progressed more slowly than the last two due to the running repairs to replace broken spears, swords and re-pinning broken limbs etc. so, here's a progress shot of the painted mounts and the riders with my initial daubing of paint  these will act a standard bearers, hopefully all should be completed by the weekend, when I'll start the Troglodytes.

Enjoy

Looking good! I like the rhythm of the different colors to the mounts. Good distribution. Should look neat on a table. :)

Thanks for the kind comments, here's their latest progress, just received their first coat of varnish, if I get the chance over the weekend I'll take some unit shots, to give some impression of how they look altogether. In third edition these weight in at around fifty points a piece, but with their stench and causing fear their opponents suffer at least a minus two to hit in combat, in addition to the multiple attacks from the mount, if, you can get them to charge their hard to beat - especially as their also immune to psychology! 8-)

I've also slapped a bit of paint on a snake, which I intend to use as a simple jungle beasty, whilst I was waiting for the paint to dry on the troglodytes, who should be finished by the end of this weekend

Enjoy

Ugh, that snake makes me feel all nauseous and shuddery... which is a tribute to the painting! I don't do well around snakes... Keep up the good work Paul.

Thanks chaps,

The snakes caught my eye last year at Salute, but I held-off the temptation of the spontaneous purchase then, but not this year - so now have two packets, each containing two models - one with wings and the two headed version you see here, (the winged version is a complete *%^£$%" to assemble) their now sat at the side of my table waiting for those opportunities where you have a natural break in whatever you're doing to have a little paint applied occasionally.

Enjoy

OK, here's the progress on the troglodytes so far this weekend, fairly mono-paint job as they'll be mixed in with a fairly colourful set of figures I've already painted.

Enjoy

Those cold ones are great, fantastic colours. But then the troglodytes are also great - sad loss when these all left the Warhammer world. Kroxigors just aren't the same

Ah, Kroxigors, a different time and thus a different beast, to add a bit of bite to otherwise pitiful skinks - they play their part well, but they nothing as models go. Where as these Tom Meier Troglodytes have bags of character, looking as though they'll actually do some serious damage, to whatever their go to attack.

Got to say between these, the Lizardmen and the coldone riders I'm really enjoying painting them in all their forms, which hopefully results in - a reasonable stand-alone Lizardman army ready for BOYL,who needs Slann!

I can't wait to see all of this on the table!

Yeah, all together they probably would cut quite an impressive sight 8-) , unfortunately, current plans means they won't be all on a table, at the same time :( , as all the games their taking part in are fairly small to standard sized games (1000 to 3000, I know for some - that's big, but as Harry said at a recent gathering for GROG, "for Paul a thousand points is a skirmish game" and in truth, it is - as the Lizardmen Coldone riders without banners, musicians or heroes come-in at around fifteen hundred points, on their own, but they do look good, amassed 8-) ) Hopefully, a GM for at least one of the games will let me lay them out (as table fillers :o ), but not use them ;) . So, why am I painting all these figures, because they've sat in one of my to do boxes for way too long and need a touch of TLC.

Here's hoping

If, you've following these post - you'll know I've been painting up part of my collection of early Lizardmen / Slann in preparation for BOYL, and a few days ago I said I'd take my figures out of their boxes and take a few pictures so that you could see them all, as you'll not be seeing them at BOYL as the games their taking part in aren't really big enough (the largest being 9000 points a side) So, here's my pictures and if you follow the link below to my blog you'll find a few videos with a running commentary. AS ever my pictures do me no favors.

Hope you enjoy

For me that is exactly what warhammer should be! 9000+ points, fought over two days, epic amounts of lead on the table and stuff of legends!

Holy crap that's just Oldhammer porn !!! Truly an amazing sight and the fact its only part of the army

Not quite sure how to re-act to the term 'Oldhammer porn'   , lets just say this part of my collection is on the exotic / rare side; and after a considerable period of time, starting to come to fruition which others may find interesting! 8-) 8-) 8-)

On the "to do front" I'm painting another twelve troglodytes, and next up will half a dozen flying beasties just to give me some fast moving troop types and I'll then consider the addition a couple of monsters, before BOYL. After that - I'll paint up the remaining pre-slotta Lizardmen and Slann to bulk out what I've already got painted, followed by the more modern stuff I've purchased, which folks have produced to fit-in with what I already have, or that's the current plan on the run up to winter break.

Well needless to say this weekend didn't quite go according to plan, as the boss wanted a bit of work on the garden rather than time at my painting table, so just managed to get this done.

Whilst waiting for more Lizard types to come out of their second bath of Dettol (I don't know what their previous owner used as undercoat, but it's taking some shifting!), I daubed a bit colour over some of the Amazonian types I picked up from Vanquish last month, These will be playing the part of the more tribal types!

Enjoy

The paint removal isn't going well, still have a oily film over most of the models in the latest batch, so have dropped the lot into a bath of heavy duty paint remover, I've therefore been concentrating my efforts elsewhere repairing old figures and daubing a bit of paint on some classic lead. The latest piece a Chaos demon from the early eighties with GW's 'new' contrast paints, not sure if I like the results given the effect is basically a heavy wash, which given the conditions I applied the paint (hot and sunny), wasn't too successful, but they did the job very quickly and indicated the areas for high-lighting. What do you think?

Initial results
