40K-ishness along the Tartarus Rim

Hmm, you've been a busy bee! :!: I like what you got here! About what you said, I had my own Space Riders thread (in the WIP forum), not sure if that's what you were referring to. Lovely collection!

The year got off to a slow start, what with the move and the annual late spring doldrums, but it has been picking up. As to your personal WIP Space Riders thread, I wasn't looking to hijack someone else's thread. For some reason I thought someone (OC maybe?) had created a group thread. But lord if I can find it now. No worries. I'll just keep posting in my own thread. It may be a little while, as I've just been distracted from distraction by distraction. (A storm battered tramp just arrived from a rather unexpected port called "Colony 87" and colors and pigmentation is a bit backed up. Always is, really. The wait list is long.) But more Riders should get stamped through soon enough.

Did I mention the new colonists from 87 arrived Friday? Here's the first couple through Colors and Pigmentation.

There's another nearing completion and two more started.

Very nice thread I have been following for a while… I like the overall atmosphere.

Although those mecanos are my personal favorites, plus the chain block is simply brilliant!

I spent twenty years working in theatre, so I needed a chain motor. Odd that I hung my miniature motor right side up when I always hung them inverted in life. (Where you pull the chain up to the roof, and the motor climbs the chain carrying stuff. Rock and roll, baby!) Thank you. I am VERY pleased that you noticed my little motor.

Just 'cause, here's a closeup of the motor.

IMG_4500.JPG

Please note: This is NOT the way you hang a motor. (Though I've seen it done like that many times.) The eyes of the sling should be joined to the bell of an appropriately sized and rated screw pin anchor shackle and not to the motor hook. The hook isn't designed to carry a spreading force and should be used only for straight attachments. (Not that anyone actually pays attention to that in my experience. And I didn't have a 3/128" shackle. And I don't figure far away moons are likely to follow Imperial safety rules terribly closely.) Anyway . . .

Thanks for noticing!

Oh boy, I've started me a story. Using the lovely Colony '87 miniatures, Spacelords, a Ramshackle character or two, some Future Skirmishers, maybe some Demonblade kids, and maybe even a Citadel miniature. Somewhere. Possibly. ;)

Take a look on the blog. The new story is called The Sentinel Gate Affair. It will be episodic, of course. And hopefully it will lead to a Pulp Alley game or two. Fun stuff! And really really lovely new sculpts.

Thank you Suber! I've been lucky enough to find good miniatures. And I think looking at the marvelous work around here has helped me improve my game. It is . . . addictive stuff. (Which might be why I'm always in trouble about money with the spousal partner person. Too much work turning gold into lead. And folks like Axiom, ObscureCreator, and RamshackleCurtis aren't helping.)

Time for an update to cover the last of 2016 and the first of 2017.

Here's a few more civilians and critters from the Colony 87 project:

IMG_5102-2.jpg

(Bright blue jacket on that one, and remarkably yellow waders. I wore such bright boots for a while myself for a college job that involved bounding along boggy paths along bars and banks, but I never got to collect anything so lovely as his plants. Just mosquito larvae.)

And a few buildings, including a control tower for a facebook challenge. (There is a food tub involved. Just . . . one or two other things as well.)

IMG_4949-1.jpg

And some old Revel plastic kits dug out of a family collection. (And thus free. Best price ever.) . . .

IMG_5093-1.jpg

So that's the Merry Christmas part.

And now the Happy New Year. Spaceships:

Thank you Karak! I'd probably do the ork hybrid differently now, but he was a fun little project when I started him. (Oh . . . twenty odd years ago. Took me a LONG time to get paint on that.)

Okay, showtime!

Here's my new aerospace projects all polished up and in situ:

And I can't quite help sharing these next two, even if they're technically a little redundant . . .

All of these feature fairly prominently in the last episodes of Project Iowa: Episode 8, The Dragon's Lair; and 9, Knockout Punch.

Thanks Suber, thank Fimm. :) I'm starting to be almost happy with it.

And yeah, the liftoff effect was fun. I'll try not to think about what was in that exhaust so close to all those elves, but hey, it's their ship, even if they were letting the Rex-Avis kid fly it. So they probably have an idea of the safety limits and whatnot. ;)

Great pictures. I especially like those take-off shots. Don't worry about the spectators standing too close - I am sure that spaceships built by space elves are eco friendly ;)

They have a great record of preserving their own homeworld, after all . . .

So apparently it's been a while since I updated this.

First up, I painted up some guard/army as a militia unit for Logansport.

There's a little more on that in Moab Militia.

Next I added some zoats and some new hybrids to my growing genestealer cult.

More on that in A Face Only a Patriarch Can Love and Hexapodal Messianists Daughter Congregation.

Next I got drawn into the Me and My Shadow kickstarter.

More on that in Outlandish Shadows.

Lastly, I built a space ship for my gang. Finally. After saying I needed to do this for a couple of years.

I'd also like to point out that it will carry a small tank.

I wrote a rather long post about the build called Rainbow Connection, but there's a short version over in the WIP forum called MB-1377 StarLifter.
