1995 Callidus Assassin vs 2016 Callidus Assassin

Well ... its now time for the second phase of my Assassin project.... this time we have two Callidus Assassins; again one originates from 1995 and one from 2016.

I do love a Callidus Assassin, these shape-shifting killers are able to infiltrate deep behind enemy lines in order to close down the distance to their prey and then brutally slay them with their nasty looking C'Tan phase swords.

The newer model is very dynamic and it really looks like the female assassin is swooping in to kill her prey... however I have to admit that it does lack a certain degree definition in some areas which makes it a little less enjoyable to paint.

On the other hand I would say that the older metal model is far better sculpted and with its more prominent definition it was much more fun to paint! Again these two models show the scale creep between the 1995 original and its successor.

There are a load more photos and information on my blog at:

I'm really enjoying watching this project progress...next up will be some Eversors!

Lovely, great brush work, black is a difficult colour to master on a 28mm figure but you nailed it>
The Callidus were always my favorite. I must admit that I like the 1995 version better

Cheers mate!

Annoyingly I have since varnished the figures and the spray has slightly frosted causing the models to appear greyer... so I have mitigated this by repaintimg the shadowed areas black in order to make it look like another layer of natural highlights!

Did you use the new formula GW Purity Seal Varnish? I tried some on some the Leopard Company and the second batch frosted slightly.

Yeah it was purity seal. I use it all the time but every so often there's a naughty can in a batch that despises to trash your hard work!

I was very disappointed with the new formula as I have always found GW product to be of the highest quality.
