In-production Rogue Trader alternatives

Anyone have any good tips for figures that fit (in style more than scale, really) well with Rogue Trader stuff? Not proxies or stand-ins, really - but stylistically similar models. In other words, no retro 60s TV-show stuff or modern Halo or Mass Effect styled sleek body armour! =) Here are my own findings, so far:

Ion Age (Alternative Armies)
A plethora of oldschool goodness at a fair price. I assume most of us know about these by now, but worth mentioning.

Black Hat, Cobalt-1 range
Some great stuff, especially the characters and mercenaries - but also a slew of aliens. Much of it (all?) sculpted by Bob Naismith.

Foundry's 2000AD range
Maybe not the most obvious choice, given how recognizeable some of this stuff is - but in my mind the 2000AD stuff plays very nice with the RT style. Knee-pads, decidedly 80s "cool attributes" and so forth. Perfect for space pirates or planetary militia troopers (norts, southers etc).

Rebel Minis' 28mm Valonians
Pretty damn near being too close to modern stuff in style, I think they deserve an honorable mention for supplying a decent Commissar type.

EM4 Miniatures' Spacelords and pre-paints
Doug at EM4 have two fitting offerings, or three if you're into plastics. First, a few pre-painted metal mercenaries sculpted by Bob Olley. Next, a generous helping (although nowhere near complete) of old Metal Magic Spacelords miniatures - mainly the Phagon beastmen-lookalikes. Finally, a bunch of slightly whacky old plastic marine types.

Mongoose's Judge Dredd range
Once again, some of these are a bit too recognizeable to be used as anything but Dredd & Co, but there are also plenty of neat militia, gangers and mutants. Not to mention the robots. Robots! Oh my!

I think most the Black Tree ranges fit the bill quite well and I've used a load in my RT era forces.

Some of the Ral Partha Shadowrun range could find a happy home among Space Pirate crew. I like these Elf Deckers as Eldar traders:

Available from Ral Partha Europe or Iron Wind Metals.

The BTD stuff is all 50% off this week if you join the premium club (which is free). I ordered a bunch of squats and ratlings on Sunday and they were posted today.

Some of the BTD stuff is great, others are hit and miss... but with 50% off it's worth a punt to those who are unsure.

Might have to get some of these next payday! They fit the bill real nice. Cheers Chico.

No problem, I think some of the BTD Not-Squats are some of the best not-squats still in production. Shame the Enigma Squats aren't still in production though or they'll take a good place in this list:

One of the hidden beauties of those ex-Grenadier "Space Rangers" is that the three heavy weapon types are all similar in style to existing RT-era weapons - there is a Plasma Cannon, a Las-cannon and an Auto-cannon and it's obvious as to what they were intended to be. This is pretty handy as one of the problems with proxy models is getting good matches for the heavy/support weapon types. In my old 5th edition 40K Crimson Fists/Silver Skulls army I had two Devastator Squads built from these models. Be warned though that they do have hands moulded in so aren't that useful for converting other models.

CP Models make a lot of suitable miniatures. Human militia that dont look too modern or too old, Trench troopers that look very WWI in space, various aliens that I really enjoy painting, space dwarfs, lots of cool little things that might appeal. Not directly analogous with existing 40K canon of any era, but absolutely appropriate for RT style scenario gaming. One of my favourite online ranges.

Which is no problem, as stated - it's mainly the look I'm after. CP Models are great, thanks for the reminder! They have unusually high standard paintjobs on display too, don't you think? ;D

Good contributions all, not everything is my cup of tea but maybe someone else will run with it.

And thats sort of the point really :)

The reason that I find the RT book inspiring (a word that has lost its meaning somewhat, but used genuinely here) is because it is so open-ended. Every figure shown in this thread could be seamlessly inserted into any number of the scenarios, settings and plots in the rear of that book. That ethos (if not really the rules themselves) informs all of my miniature gaming.
