Getting into Kill Zone/COmbat Zone by Nick Lundt

Hi,
So after being entranced by a review in an old issue of Dragon as a kid, I am finally getting around to painting minis for Combat Zone. My friend's dad used to sell them, so I was recently able to get a gallon ziploc bag full of them for $1 apiece with no shipping.

I can find the points values for different things, but I don't seem to be able to discern how many points typical sized games are.

So, how many of these do I ACTUALLY need to paint? Not the lowball number we use to entice our friends to pickup another game. Not the high-end estimate that I'd need for every permutation of the lists either. How many should I paint given that I am non-competitive but like to be at least close to WYSIWYG?

I am beginning by painting a wasteland gang made of 10 savages/scavengers figures, with a vague assumption that 10 troopers and 10 rebels are the logical next steps.
