Old White Dwarf Questions

Hello!

I have a several questions regarding White Dwarf Magazine and have been unable to discover the answers to them, I was hoping someone might have a moment to help me out.

I have now noted that were different editions of WD most often referred to; an American and a UK version. I am in Canada and it ends up we have our own edition but it seems in every way identical to the US? The question here is what issue did they begin this US/UK split?

Secondly, and most importantly, what was the issue range that encompassed the Third Edition of WFB?

Many thanks for your help ;)
Jim

Well if memory serves 4th edition of WFB came out towards the end of 1992, so we were probably around issue 150/155 ish at that point. I think WFB 3rd was out in '87 so that would be around 85. Alas issues 95+ are off with my brother so I can't go and double check - but I can go and have a flick back around issue 80 and see if it's obvious when they did the 2/3rd switch. As to the UK/US split alas not something I know any details about.

Well according to the back cover of issue 94 - issue 95 had a WFB 3rd edition preview and competion in it, so I was out somewhat on my guess there issue 95+ it is. I guess 3rd was out for Christmas of '87, I expect someone who got it that Christmas can confirm!

This is wonderful Eric, thank you.

I know they were publishing errata for Armies and Slaves to Darkness by/in 107, November of '88 (both US and UK price listed on the cover from the pics), and there is a single column review in Maginalia for 3rd Edition in issue 96 (December '87, same) - this last is the only one I have from this time period right now, from a much later 'lot purchase' (I was collecting WD articles for WHQ). Very curious what the first and last issues were of White Dwarf with 3rd Edition content (aside from ads) and what that content was!

Thanks again Eric.

This is amazing!

Dieselmonkey, thank you for this - exactly what I was looking for.

I am still curious as to when the US/UK tandem editions started. Apparently the US is larger format page wise and one issue number behind or ahead. For collecting reason you can see why this would be important up here, where everything come via the post off ebay, etc. I guess I could reword the question, what issue number was the first US Edition of WD!

Thanks again Dieselmonkey.

Eric,

What an amazing resource - thank you for posting that - your earlier estimate (150-154) was bang on!

Looking through my (UK) WD collection, there's a news article in WD158 that states that "White Dwarf is now being printed in the USA"

So I imagine it was 158/159 that it started. Hope that helps!

That it Dieselmonkey! Perfect, and thanks. All my collecting (and more importantly, intended collecting now) is online, this means I can grab issues before 158 with worrying about what edition I am looking for - and for the foreseeable future that is specific issues in the 95 through 149-154ish range.

Thanks again.
