Identifying figures

Hi

I struggle using sololegends site, it is a tough site to navigate and I rarely find anything save by accident.
What is the easiest way to identify a figure, find out if it was GW or Marauder, if it is rare/valuable etc ?

Any advice ?

Thank you

Phil

For 99% of 'Oldhammer' slottabased figures, the date's on the back of the tab, so that gives you a big hint. So, if a figure came out between 1985-1992, the vast majority are either in one of three catalogues:

1991 Blue Catalogue: http://solegends.com/citcat1991a/index.htm
1991 Red Catalogue: http://solegends.com/citcat1991b/index.htm
1992 Green Catalogue: http://solegends.com/citcat1992/index.htm

Then it's a case of looking at the front of the tab. it may well have the range written on the front of the tab, then it's just a case of googling 'name on tab' and 'citadel'. If it's a personality model with a name, then do the same in google. 99% of the time, you get results.

Marauder models generally have two letters and then a number on the tab, which again, you can then just google with 'Marauder' as the search term.

You can then narrow it down by physically examining the figure:

Does it have a gun? It's probably a 40k model.
Pointy ears and a sword? Elf. Pointy ears and a gun? Eldar.
Short and a hammer: dwarf. Short and a gun? Squat.

It's easy enough to narrow it down to a range, and then browse the catalogue for the vast majority of stuff.

as there are no likes on this forum, i am just posting to say that dieselmonkey has basically given the textbook answer.

personally i could spend hours on solegends, but there you go.

No problem. Unless the figure has a really nice, scenic base, it's worth taking it off as the tab makes ID'ing them so much easier. If you go through all the basics above, and it's not in those three catalogues, then it's time to get out the camera and request help.

I mean, I've probably got an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of '85-'92 Citadel, but even I occasionally see figures I've not come across before.

The tabs are not always much help. I have a dwarf slayer with two axes, but the axe heads are on chains rather than hafts. Seemed an odd figure which I didn't recognize and I have been away from gw since about 89/90 until last year so have missed out on a lot, just curious about him.

Sounds like a Doomseeker. Now, that's way out of my (anally retentive) specialist knowledge area, but I just googled 'citadel Dwarf Slayer chain axes', and as well as the term 'Doomseekers', this guy came up:

Look about right?

I must admit, I actually enjoy ID'ing figures from descriptions, and Google is always my first stop.
