DISASTER!!!

Dear all

I received an email yesterday from the people I had making the dice (dice.co.uk) saying their laser cutter has broken and can't be replaced until 28th July meaning the earliest they could have the dice made would be mid-August, probably closer to the 20th than the 10th. This would be the soonest they could manage, even with bumping us to the head of the queue.

So....

With timescale and other companies being more expensive anyway, the options are either:

1 - cancel the order
2 - stick with the order but not get them 'til after BOYL and sort out postage for everyone
3 - Take dice.co.uk up on their offer to print, rather than engrave the image onto the dice. In which case it might make sense to swap it for the "1" instead of the "6" so as not to unbalance the dice? This would be slightly cheaper by 15p per dice and I can sort out refunds for anyone who wants them.

Please let me know which you'd like to do asap so that we can get them in time, preferably by 9am Wednesday 9th July (i.e. tomorrow morning).

Sorry about this :x

3 would be a no-no for me. Either of the other 2 options would be fine.

1 or 2

first option would probably be the most convenient solution for you we'd all lose a few pennies, end of the story
second option could do but you'd have to mail a bucketload of packages with another round of paypals to get

Please not No. 3. As I was awaitng patiently for the magic envelope the rest would not affect me.
- from now on the jackals would be wary.

I'd say go with 3, with the fall back being number 2.

Anyone who chooses option 1 I will do naughty things to you while you sleep!

A friend of mine who used to work in a casino gave me a big lecture one time on how custom dice were unfair unless you took into account the amount of material removed in any custom design. So, the goats engraved is about the same material removed as six dots, but a printed design is obviously no material removed so should replace the "one" to keep as close to true random balance as possible. I don't think we're competitive enough to care about a fraction of a percentage shift in a distribution curve, but there seems no point in deliberately getting wonky dice.

Anyway, my response to his lecture? "Tough, you rolled lower, so it's your round!"

Thanks for the explanation. Regarding preferred option - I'm happy to go with majority rule.

I've got to say, I much prefer etched dice, so option 2 works for me. Needless to say I have no issue slinging additional cash to cover postage and packaging costs, assuming you don't mind fiddling about with all the different orders and little bags.

I would prefer option 3 but will go with 2 if that's the majority vote.
