Re: Oldhammer Weekend Painting Competition

Isn't Fimm a propmaker by trade? He could make a nice hammer too, but the idea of one of Harrys spares globbed over with Shining Gold is very amusing - although the figure of the 1st Edition cover was called Uthmog, no idea when the Harry the Hammer moniker started being used, I think it's much more recent.

On another tangent, what does this competition "do" to the Golden Gobbos, is it still going to run? Is the community going to be able to support 2 competitions. And in this day and age, wouldn't an internet / photography based competition make much, much more sense and be open to many more people? I got the general idea that people were against it being an internet based competition, but don't know why. Seems like the idea is a worthwhile one to me, don't http://www.coolminiornot.com/ run competitions for people?

Both types of competition could cohabit without problem, but it is true that a "real" competition during the Oldhammer Weekend could be a real good idea to communicate outside this forum, and miniatures seen in the flesh are not the same that miniatures seen on a screen...

To my mind there are just so many barriers to entry for it to be of interest to anyone off-forum - posting their precious old lead to an event they can't go to, to people they don't know, and paying for return postage and insurance. Yeah, I hear you on the tangible vs. virtual thing, but much wider exposure and participation on the virtual side. Perhaps an additional category for virtual would help? They could win a photo of Harrys Hammer :-P
