I though we were aiming fr the end of August?
I was relying on the summer holidays to paint stuff.

Thanks for sorting this out so early. I have not booked my summer hols yet ... I shall now try to leave this weekend free.

There were quite a few birthdays and anniversaries later on in August so we ended up with an earlier date. Better start painting now!

OK Folks,

I'm hoping to put on a game of Chaos v Slann/lizardmen on over the course of the weekend. Hopefully, Goblinlee will be turning up with one or two of his cold blooded types to join mine; any volunteers to provide the opposition - Nico, Asslessman?

In hope

Paul / Golgfag1

P.S. And before anybody asks - Yes, I will be bringing extra stuff and I will let people borrow it, as I did this year.

WELL, this post certainly killed off any further posts to this topic, I would have thought someone would have posted something in response; but hey ho, these things are sent to try us. Is anybody else after the initial rush to set dates etc. actually go to be doing anything whilst their there ?

In hope

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

Hello Paul,

I cannot give of answer for the moment because date of Oldhammer Day 2014 is a little bit far for me. I can answer you in may/Jun 2014.

But if I come (and I am going to make what is needed for that) I would be very happy to play a big game with Asslessman against you and others.

Army choice is hard for me, Chaos, Skaven or O&G...? :? Hard moment for a wargamer

I don't think it's a case that people are disinterested Paul, it's just a long way off at the moment. For my part I haven't the faintest idea of what I'll be bringing at the moment, I haven't even thought of it. All I know is that barring an apocalypse (or perhaps an ill child ;) ) I'll be there.

Well Paul the silence is no sign of lack of interest on my part but more a sign of lack of visibility for now.
Just like Nico said, I'm going to do what it takes to be there and eat some delicious slann legs 8-) with Nico . I just need a couple of months and my son to be born in January to have a better visibility and to prepare something epic with you.

Thanks for the positive responses Guys,

I know BOYL is a long way off, but I'd like to avoid the pressure of trying to get everything together in the last couple of months as I did this year; if Nico hadn't stepped up to the mark this year - I wouldn't have taken the boy'z up to Nottingham and no doubt would have just tagged along not really getting involved, just looking over other peoples shoulders and admiring the old lead on display, which is my usual habit at such events; where as I got involved and made friends with a few of you.
Hence, here I am, actually getting organized so that I'll turn up with painted figures, an army list, the correct rules (I'm happy to play any edition - apart from, perhaps first) and can now say that I've played third - at least three times and a modicum of idea of what might actually happen, during the course of a game!

Paul / Golgfag1

PS. Nico, I have a bottle of Malt with your name on it, and another, I hope to share with you, hope to see you there.

Hey Paul,
I have really enjoyed your company in the three games we have played together.
I will happily join in ... if I'm welcome.

Hey Paul....if I might be so bold as to add my macuahuitl to the good guys side ;) I should be able to offer many braves and totem warriors as tribute to the Jade Throne.

Well as long as life does not kick me in the :o again I should be going.

Planning on taking some RT marines to stomp the genestealer incursion of Chico's (possibly some other imperial allies if anyone else has any or if I get sidetracked painting).

Should also be bringing my undead (not sure on the points yet again it depends on what I get painted).

Anything else will be based on what I get done by then.. would like to get a confrontation tech gang painted and possibly some monsters or a merc force to go with the undead...

Thanks for the responses guy's,

Here are my first thoughts for a participation/big game - please read my idea & rational behind them - I'm quite happy to take on board other peoples ideas as long as their progressing the game towards it's overall objectives - Having fun and including as many people as possible (in that order).

I quite liked the way the game of 'get to the over side' worked - So, Saturday morning/early afternoon should be given over to running with this idea - only this time the war bands (500 points) will be crossing a swamp in an attempt to get to where a Slann mage is dying; with his minions in attendance trying to keep the grave-robbers away before the tomb is sealed. This allows those players with minimal forces or only there for the day to join-in for a fun filled couple of hours and allows those involved for the long haul to wander about the venue, see what others are doing & participate in other things, if they want to.
This allows players to join-in / drop out when they want to as it's not essential to be there when the game starts, in fact as those who played this game last year will testify - sometimes, it might be better not to go first!
It also allows players form all sides of the spectrum to join-in and help or hinder each another as they see fit (role-playing) which was one of the thing I enjoyed about the game at Abingdon. :o  :o  :o
There are random events controlled by the GM, which hopefully won't bog the game down too much.

The latter part of the afternoon will be setting up for the next day - THE BIG GAME - Where basically, If, you can get it on the table with the consent of those around you - it's on the table! I will however, take this opportunity to say the Slann mage isn't dead and may just drop a comet on anything that looks to be too nasty!

This allows players with larger collections to get them on the table - units of thirty plus Coldone riders can't be bad?

One question what rules would people prefer to use?

Hi Paul, that's a good plan.
Start by skirmish/Small games, on a table full of sceneries. You have a collection of sceneries? If not we can start to imagine the table.
And second day the Big Game, less sceneries and more more more mini's :)
For rules, we can play with 3rd edition.

We can creat a new message to discuss ?

Bye Nico

This sounds like great fun, and I love the idea of something that would "build" over the two days. Just as a quick query - is this going to be kept very strictly as an only Chaos vs only Slann affair? Or will broader allies be permitted either in the skirmish game or the big battle? (e.g. I don't have many Slann and probably won't have the opportunity or cash to collect many beforehand, but I was contemplating the possibility of sea elves on a diplomatic mission in the service of a Slann ambassador)

If, of course, you just want to keep the armies "pure" in terms of the factions, that's absolutely fine, I just reckon identifying a game I'd want to be part of at this early stage seems like it would give me a focus to the planning.

Lenilan,
Pah, I don't normally hold with such things, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned - I'm looking at the game from the prospective of various interested parties - hearing of the soon demise of a major Slann mage - looking to either get hold of some powerful items or revenge for some past slight or stopping other's doing any of the previous and the servants looking to give their leader a decent send-off. What part you wish to play is your choice.
I've a few idea's of how I'll throw a few curved balls into the mix - which, I'll keep to myself for now!

Thanks for the response. I'll get in touch directly a bit closer to the time to make sure that the force I'm putting together still fits with what you've got going in terms of planning but the scenario really sounds like something I can have fun with.

I'm agnostic with regards to what rules to use - been just using 3rd ed recently, but more than happy to play to any set of rules, including a mixture of rules from different editions.

Forgive me if I missed a post in the thread explaining this, but will there be a warbands game like last years oldhammer day?
I don't fancy bringing a massive amount of lead on the plane, so I was hoping to play a few RoC warband games with a nurgle warband.
And are palanquin's a reasonable substitute for chaos steeds for nurgle players?

No Aiteal I don't think you've missed anything in the previous post, I just don't think anybodies gotten that far down the road yet. As for last years game - I think Warlord Paul, Orlygg & Lenilan all took part or had a hand in the Realm of Chaos game - so, they should be able to tell us who, what & how -they put it together; Guy's any clues?

Thanks in advance
