The Bitzbox Warband Challenge

Ok so it's not painting per se but definitely a challenge (painting will come later). I would like to introduce the inaugural Bitzbox Warband Challenge.
Here are my (self-imposed) rules that helped me focus, but of course feel free to use your own:

1. Every model must be converted / kitbashed to hell (and therefore unique)
2, I must use only currently owned bitz (no buying more stuff!)
3. I must not use more than two parts from the same kit on one model
4. If using Realm of Chaos, then rolls must be adhered to or complete the conversion and then find attributes to match (I did the latter here).

I'd love to see if anyone else is up for the challenge; it's quite a satisfying feeling to create something new out of unwanted and unused stuff and the chaotic nature of combining loads of bits lends itself especially nicely to the Realms of Chaos, but can be applied to any race/army/system. If you're interested in doing something similar, with whichever race and in whatever quantity, please post your efforts here.

Here's my bitzbox warband, created over a few long evenings with my bitzboxes, scalpels, clippers, paper-clips, plastic glue, super glue and imagination:

Can you recognise all the bitz? (which in itself is a nice side game to the challenge).

You can see more on my blog if you're interested:

So why not have a go, get creative and share your work here, it's fun!

Great idea and great warband Bane. I particularly like your champion - very effective!

I'll have a look through my bits boxes and see what I can come up with...

I realmly like those rules, anything that helps reduce the model pile and makes one work on modelling rather than spending more is good in my book.

Funnily enough, I used about the same rules to do my RoC warband last year : http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2014/05/t ... ished.html

Won't be making another RoC Warband before some time but will be following this one with much interest !

Also interestingly enough, I did the same challenge for my Inquisimunda Warband this weekend, will be blogging photos soon. :) Good rules.

Some Inquisitor-y models; only done a few so far, but I think I'm on a roll.

This guy will get armoured shoulder pads and a higher-tech weapon holster, and maybe some other bits and pieces of armour. Body is a WHFB 5th ed. plastic Saurus, found in the bottom of a big box of Bretonnians my wife found in a charity shop. Head is from a WGF greatcoat shock trooper, purchased used on LAF. Weapon and left hand are from an AoBR Ork (I think?), picked up free on Freecycle.

Body is an em-4 plastic robot (£2.50 for 5), heavy bolter is a spare from a vehicle kit, and the arm ... I have no idea. This guy will be getting some more devotional doohickeys here and there to make him look more superstitious.

Body is a WGF greatcoat shock trooper, arms are from Mordheim mercs (I may give him a better off-hand weapon), bolt pistol from Chaos marines, head is a MaxMini spare I had lying around after finishing my Nurgle cultist conversions, and the shoulderpads are from VOID Junkers.

And some more! This is fun as hell.

Clearly one of the heavies of the bunch -- Marine torso, right arm and pads from relatively modern kits (although, in my defense, different ones!), head and loincloth from flagellants, legs from late-90s Chaos marine, left arm and pad from 2nd ed marine, and a backpack you can't see from a Robogear toy. I am starting to get the idea that this is the retinue of a slightly batty Inquisitor.

"Sir, I'm pretty sure Traitor Marines can't 'reform.'"

"Nonsense, Gunderwald. He's promised he won't do it again."

"Won't betray the emperor and turn into an immortal other-dimensional murder-addict again?"

"Precisely!"

"Can you do that more than once?"

"Gunderwald?"

"Sir?"

"How many of us are the Lord Inquisitor?"

(Sigh.) "Just you, sir."

"And that means I can do ... ?"

"Whatever the hell you like, sir."

"And by contrast you should ... ?"

"Shut my pie hole, sir."

"Will there be anything else, Gunderwald?"

"No, sir."

"Carry on."

Is this the frustrated Gunderwald himself? Body from a Warzone 2nd ed. plastic, pistol from a 90s Ork sprue, power claw from a Mantic Ork, head from a Marine. I'm gonna give him a badge or a medal or a purity seal or something to make him look fancier. I think his neck looks too long, so I may pop it off and trim it down a bit; it looked OK in person -- maybe it's just the low angle of the photo?

Great to see your warband on here again JB, a real inspiration for this challenge.

James I can't see your images, I'm not sure what's wrong but it's frustrating because they sound great from what you've written!

VanLoon, daddyorchips and Fimm - looking forward to seeing what you create/created, when you get the chance....

OK, how's this?

This one is my favourite, great choice and range of bitz and lovely pose too.

I'm currently at the greenstuffing stage with my warband, which is a bit less tedious than the painting stage. For me the most fun is in the creating.

Taadaaa! What I was doing at maybe about the same time! Spoooky....

These gun servitors were my favourite concoction of the session though:
