@Jimbobodoll - Sorry to hear that. We'll have to tempt you and your Skaven back another day

@ Paul and weazil - any preference for who is attacker and who defender?

I'm idly wondering if we can drag Harry down from GROG land for the occasion...

I would love to come along ... but it is my boys birthday that weekend. Sorry fellas. Another time.

Harry - Pah! Call that an excuse? It's my daughter's birthday that weekend too (spooky huh?).

I've faithfully promised my wife we'll be all set by then, only mild raised eyebrows so far...

Okay, so just the three of us, then. Generally, I prefer attack, but I'm comfortable either way. Perhaps it comes to army choice? I can do plain chaos up to around 1800, scaling all the way to 3400 points for RoC Nurgle.

I think I can do 2000 pts undead, and around 1000 pts goblins or high elves (6th ed plastic).

The 3400 RoC army includes undead and goblins, though, so the armies above are not 'cumulative'.

These blog posts will give you more of an idea:

High elves, some humans and most of the goblins:

Human adventurers:
http://warhammerforadults.blogspot.co.u ... inted.html

Chaos (right at the bottom):
http://warhammerforadults.blogspot.co.u ... hings.html

Also, I have around 28 dark elves painted (not by me) to a reasonable enough standard to field.

Let me know where you want to go with that...

Regards
Gaj

Gaj / weazil - we'll call you the attacker then, on the "fastest finger first" principle. It's a bit of a nominal label though in the 2 player situation, as you'll see... :)

Up to you on army choice, it looks like you have 3 options all of which would work.

Paul / Golgfag1 is fielding chaos / dark elves, so you fielding chaos too is probably the least satisfying option, but I'm happy for you to if that's your preference.

Undead would work, as would a high elf / human alliance using the troops from your Mourning Glory report (with one slight tweak we'll discuss if you go down that route).

In terms of appropriateness for the scenario the elves probably work best, followed by chaos then undead.

Changing the subject completely, on a scenery front we'll need an approximately 3 foot length of river (with ford or bridge), a longish hill (in a perfect world a 2 foot by 9 inches saddleback), a smaller hill and a couple of woods worth of trees. From that report you seem to be well set for rivers, and it seems both you and Paul have trees (although his are full of chariots... :) ). I'm tempted to put together the hill myself unless either of you have something that will work instead (then I can get on with painting orcs!). I'm assuming Paul's big green piece of cloth is 6' x 4', if not we'll adjust accordingly.

Looking forward to it!

OGG game this Friday, 1 Nov

We're busy plotting via private message or finishing last-minute painting so there's no sign of it here, but we're preparing for a OGG meeting this Friday at Abingdon Wargames Club.

There's space for another player if anyone's keen, so I thought I'd put down some details here. Otherwise just turn up and see Golgfag1's chaos warband in the flesh.

If you do want to bring an army it needs to follow these restrictions -

  • No wood elves or high elves. Any other "good" army (Brettonians (some of the time :) ), dwarves, Empire) is actually a mercenary company in the pay of ...
  • Non-skaven armies must include a mage
  • Maximum wizard level is 15
  • No flyers

Otherwise stay posted for a battle report in a few days!

Thanks for a great game guy's, a pleasant evening, in good company, playing a game in IMHO the spirit of the game I couldn't want for anything else.

For a first run out - it certainly proved an interesting game with the boys, girls & things of chaos for me and I certainly learned one thing - the dice are cruel!   Oh and I have to go into work today so pictures will be winging their way to you this afternoon.

Hope to see you both soon

Yeah, cheers for that, Mr Golgfag - a very interesting game indeed.

It turned out to be the worst drive home I've ever had though - I (together with about two hundred other motorists) got stuck behind some kind of rolling feat of engineering moving at about 5MPH. It took a half an hour before it found the offramp it was aiming for.

But not content with confounding my journey home, a different collection of engineers elected to close the A34 at the A303!

Anyway, a good evening and a good game. Thanks chaps!

Sorry you had such a bad trip home Gaj.

I'm still recovering from my daughter's birthday but will get into photos and write-up mode asap.

Glad you both had a good game. I had a few worrying moments, especially around turn 2 when Gaj seemed to be thinking "wtf am I up against?" but thanks for sticking with it. It seemed to turn into a really interesting battle - we just needed an extra hour or so (or me not to turn up late!), as it was left on a bit of a cliffhanger!

There also seemed quite a good reception within the club, there might be a few more players in future by the sound of things - the Oldhammer spirit seemed to have some resonance there.

Meanwhile, a quick trailer - I was thinking Wezma might need a new robe at about this point -

And there was me thinks he started dropping the brown stuff at the start of the game -when I rolled 1 for the Jabberwocky stats., a 1 for the Lesser Demon stats. &then failed to keep them under control and as for the combat don't get me started (four dice, three or more to hit - well, lets just say I didn't bother picking them up to roll to wound) but I can't complain Gaj shooting was just as bad!
Though it all made for a pretty gripping game, with me raising more demons to beat my demons! and sending troops on a wide flanking route march to confuse Gaj even more than usual!

Interesting times, can't wait for the write-up.

Yup, Gaj's elves' shooting was truely shocking :)

Paul, I also have to say that your roleplaying of your force was exemplary, there were several times when you played in character to your own detriment. Hopefully I'll remember to highlight them at the appropriate points.

I've started a report in the appropriate forum (well, actually a link to the report on my blog) -

So now that the last battle report is finished and Christmas and the New Year are behind us, I feel it's time to start planning our next outing...

The only Friday I can't do in the forseeable future is 24 January.

So who's up for it, and when?

Unfortunately Paul,
January is quite a busy month for me and mine as it's my youngests eighteenth (oh, the joy) and my wife as declared shes been asked to escorting a small horde of our junior fencing inter-nationals to foreign climes, and she's agreed; which leaves me minding the fort. So, how do youor another other local(?) fancy bring your kit over this part of the world and make a day of it? Whilst she's away.

Paul - interesting idea. When's your wife away? I'll tally up my stock of brownie points with my wife :) Also I must warn you my stock of kit is pretty low, it's been a bad month for painting :(

Meanwhile Gaj / Harry / Jim / anyone else - are you available for a jaunt to Abingdon this month?

Giving this topic a nudge - anyone interested in getting together this month?

I need a deadline to give my painting a bit of a kick! :)

Yup, this week is a bit of a no-go, I need to clear out the garage so building work can happen. Oh joy!

Last weekend of the month is either great or a complete no-go, I'll have to check with my wife. Probably 60%-40% a no, if not I can't do the first weekend in March (daughter's birthday) either... I will put my best grovelling hat on...

Good news Gaj. I was worried you'd not want to come north of the M4 anymore :)

Assuming the visa's issued do you have any preferences for a plan? I've got an idea in mind for the next installment of Wezma Blan-kit's and Commander Bhondd's adventures, or would be happy to play if you or Paul fancy GMing (and I can get some painting time in this month...!).
