Interesting :) , tell us more :?: As I've not been following that particular thread - will go and read now.
OK, now read your idea Harry.

Now, How do you want this to run - Friday night at Abingdon (preliminary skirmish - missing sheep/ sorry goats etc! Also gives those of us who can't make Saturday a chance to take part) and at your house on Saturday? (Full on assault).
I had not though of that I was suggesting the 2nd instead.
I guess it depends who can make it ... and for which days.
I can't make the Friday.
But that does not mean if some of you guys can you can't play a linked scenario.

Lets see who can make what nights first.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the 1st, but it sounds like you chaps have a good evening planned...
Can you make the 2nd? (Saturday)

Sorry, Mr Harry - I mean to say I'm otherwise engaged for that weekend (which is typical, because I've got three different oldhammer options for that weekend, so typically, The Minister of the Interior has trumped me with an arrangement that was probably made in January 2007...

OK, how are you guy's fixed - will anybody need a lift on Saturday etc? :?:

Harry,

Can you provide your ideas for Saturday ASAP so that we can develop a scenario to fit-in with it? I'm currently thinking Little Red Riding-hood finding something in the forest and taking it to Gran-ma's house!

Thanks in advance

Paul / Golgfag1

PS. If, No one can make the 1st, we still have the rest of November to arrange something at Abingdon? ;)

I can't manage the Saturday unfortunately (weekends are a bit hectic for the forseeable future) but should be OK for the 1st. I like the idea of the prequel scenario, about how the thing got to be above the fireplace in the first place. Perhaps Snow White and the Seven Dwarves have more chance of making it out of the forest alive than LRR...? :)

Although we need to stack it a bit, so the thing does actually get to the fireplace!

Provisionally count me in for the 1st, I'll confirm the booking asap with the Official House Calendar (TM).

OK, here's the first part of the write-up (the easy bit I can remember) for our first gathering with a few more pictures

Paul / Golgfag1

The terrain was open rolling hills with lots of dips and hollows to hide-in and the occasional tree (much was made by those present that nothing could be hidden in such open terrain, how wrong those words were to prove!); the first forces to enter the table were Chaos (Grumdril/Paul), Goblins (Weasil/Gaj) & undead (Harry), all three made double moves and weren’t immediately noticed by any marauding greenskins. with their cavalry and large creatures rushing ahead of their main forces. On the second all three marched forward again, however, this time Gaj’s Trolls crossed paths with a pair of Night Goblins escorting one of their more irrational brethren back to the horde See previous photos) - their charge broke away and crashed through the trolls inflicting a couple of wounds on the brutes, but both were regenerated, following in the wake of their chargers example – the two unlucky warders also charged into the trolls - only to be squashed under a huge club, first blood to the players, but, where was that whirling fanatic heading!

The third turn again saw the players rushing forward again, but by this time joined by more urn-est while allies in the form of Skaven (Jimbobodoll / James) & Brettonians (DrJones / Alex) bringing up the rear. At this Gaj’s goblins Turned round (if, any one was going to hang around at the rear - it was going to be Gaj’s goblins - where else, would you expect any self respecting goblin – but bringing up the rear?) The Skavens eyed the goblins, the goblins eyed the Brettonians and they - just lowered their lances (em, might be a bit of a problem here!) and then the Green skins turned up - On the flank of the Skaven (23 Orcs) and three chariots moved over the crest of a hill, in front of Harry’s undead cavalry! The orcs charged – Harry’s skeletons, in the rear! (It was the dice roll honest, Harry); the Brettonians charged Gaj’s Goblins – who broken towards the Whirling ball of death and the Skaven charged the remaining goblins! The fanatic crashed into Gaj’s Goblins and thus into the Brettonians – removing 5 Goblins & 4 knights; the Skavens drove the goblins back and the fight between the orcs and skeletons became a slogging match with the appearance of a couple of un-dead heroes!

The players moved their remaining troops and rolled their dice to see if they’d been spotted, they had - Harry’s cavalry suddenly found them selves confronts by three chariots and Gramdils chaos band attracted a few goblins in front of their minatours (All of which, just stood there - watching)! Gaj’s trolls became interested with some apples in one of the trees.
The following turn saw the players make some interesting moves – Harry’s cavalry moved around the chariots (On the basis of - their not bothering me, so I won’t bother them) only to meet a unit of twenty plus Orc archers! Gaj’s trolls were still too interested in apples to move; whilst Harry’s Skeletons broke away from the orcs, who held their ground. Alex’s Retainers moved forward only to find the chariots in their path and we saw more goblins appear in front of Gaj’s routing Goblins, who charged, sandwiching Gaj’s troops against the lone Bretonian knight -Much slaughter - ensued.
I'll post the next episode over the weekend

Thanks for the fantastic night of dice-rolling and model-shuffling last Friday. Much envious/curious looks from the historical wargamers around us.

It was a great scenario for a first (proper) meet for a new group of wargamers, so thanks for Paul for organising it and putting it on!

Great stuff.
You can't beat being charged in the rear randomly.

Look at those Death Riders fearless, charging those chariots! :?

Absolutely. I'm hoping we can get one in for November and another for December, but one thing at a time. My Fridays are clear at the moment, so book away.

Things are fairly busy over the next couple of weekends (blog-con, warfare etc.) how are you fixed towards the end of the month?

I can do the 22nd or 29th. The 29th will involve slightly more brownie point expenditure, but as I've the least distance to travel I'll happily go with whatever's easiest for everyone.

Jimbobodoll / James, You've been fairly quiet recently - you up for this?

Grumdril / Paul, Do you want to design & run the game this time, any terrain etc just ask and if I can, I will.

In hope

Yup, happy to run it. I've a scenario bubbling around in my head for a 2 to 4 player, so we could give that a go. Alternatively we could perhaps get two separate battles going if we have lots of players.

If people reply with which standard-ish armies they can happily field 1500pts of (so no, giants don't count! :) ) we could start planning.

Excellent, will start putting something together the Thursday before! dis-appointed about the giants as it's only seven figures!

Trolls are fun, maybe I'll go with those instead.

See you soon

Here's a bit more info to help you make decisions.

* There will be 2 or 3 armies, one nominally the defender. If we have 4 players then command of the defending army will be split between two players.
* The defender would ideally be one of the following - orcs / chaos / dark elves / skaven. If we don't have anyone who wants to field any of them as the defender role I'm sure I can tweak the scenario to accommodate (e.g. Empire would probably work, wood elves less so)
* The other one / two armies can be anything (within reason, ideally ogre level intelligence at least... :) ) but only one (or none) should be a "good" army
* If there are 3 or more players then the defending army will be somewhat bigger than the other 2 armies (but significantly smaller than them combined)
* I'll mandate at least one unit choice for the defending army, perhaps more, and possibly one for one of the other armies

As there will need to be a bit of back-and-forth on the roles and selections it'd be good to know who's coming and with which preferred armies / roles a week ahead of time, and ideally have a draft army selection for each army sometime around the Monday / Tuesday before the game.

I'm looking forward to it (with a bit of trepidation as to what choices you'll throw at me...!).

Ok, I'll be running with a fifty-fifty split Chaos / Dark Elf army (Really depends on how the painting of the chaos types goes!) list to follow shortly.

See you there

Hello gents,

I think I might take a backseat if that's alright. I'm glad OGG is up and running and that there are many a plan afoot.

That said, I'm just not that big a gamer really so if I do pop along it might just be to watch you chaps in action. :)

Enjoy yourselves though!
