Citadel JD, Paranoia AND Gothic Horror

Oh, nice! That really is quite the collection! The work on the tween is great. I've done a plaid once or twice before, but that tweed . . . that's fiddly! Great stuff all around. And what the investigator has summoned . . . ! Bravo!

Most of my spare time in the last weeks has been spent assembling scenery (I bought the Warcradle Dunsmoth set which, whilst fun to assemble, is intended for a slightly larger scale of miniatures that the 1985 Citadel range i.e. 35mm rather than 25mm).

Have been pootling along with a few other minis but nothing of note to share yet - except for another gribbly for my investigators to battle - a C18 Night Horror Apeman (again still to be based)

When I've finished a few more Gothic Horror I'll try to post a photo(s) of them in their new Dunsmouth environs

Have managed to complete a few more Gothic Horror pieces during lockdown but have spent much more time assembling the Warcradle Dunsmouth mdf buildings.

I plan to put both together in a photo shoot at some point in the relatively near future (big issue is that the scenery is intended for 35 mm whilst the GT range is very clearly 25 mm, and in some cases arguably smaller...).

This guy is a new England 'lighthouseman' (hence his woolly fisherman's jumper). He was missing his revolver and so a quick scramble around the bits box meant that he has gained a 1911 Browning pistol. To my eyes the fix looks good, but by god the gun is big (the miniature itself is very slight). He looks like a cocky bastard, but probably can afford to be cocky if he's backed up by the big gun (although that's not going to help him against Cthulhu or an elder god...)

Second is the adventuress - she's probably adventuring in South America or North Africa - hence her oversized pith helmet!

Third is a compilation, the adventuress is back but also here we have a gamekeeper, two Bobbies (one is listed as "Alo Alo") and "Lady Jane"

More soon! EDIT: Have also invested in some excellent hooded half fishman cultist types from Blind beggar miniatures - very impressed by these! They may be among these next miniatures that I post along with one or two more dread minis

Another day in lock down and a few more pieces to share.

This is Chimichunga from the Citadel Judge Dredd perps range (JD3). Whilst I was glad to get hold of her and paint her up for the collection she really isn't my favourite sculpt from the range. She is a version of the Venus Bluegenes (JD10/11/12) and the two features that stood out were (a) her ginormous head and (b) her freaking gigantic gun hand. She's like a freaking fiddler crab with a dimorphic claw! Some trainee sculpting going on here i think....

Here's Venus for comparison (an early paint job, NOT Covid related painting)

The other mini I'd like to share is from the Gothic Horror Range - one of two explorer's - chosen to give him a Han Solo on Hoth style blue jacket and experimented for the first time with GW's Valhallan Blizzard (not a massive fan).

I made a cock up here as I had a nice bright paint job, applied a thick matt varnish and it leeched the brightness. I then further compounded the issue by applying a Tamiya snow weathering paint. Still love the mini and would love to get the variant.

Oh, brilliant! Cock up or not, I love your gothic horror. He's absolutely fantastic! And the Han Solo reference is pretty clear. I love it!

Cheers for that. I was disappointed when he dulled out but he’s such a nice miniature. I’ve got a second apeman figure which I’m painting up as a yeti, this mountaineer will be stalking him - hence the blood trail in the snow.

A few more cleared from the pile

Firstly the Gothic Horror Reverend (also known as Rev Luther Kirkegard from the Curse of the Mummy's tomb). Just leaves the Earl of Carmarthen from the original box to paint up. Then I need to progress on the additional four characters from the White Dwarf expansion (I only have "Dodger Fagin"/Burglar (bugler?) at the moment.

Gothic Horror 'Ethel' (sneaking her revolver out of her purse...)

As threatened, my yeti version of the Night Horrors Apeman.

And finally the first of my Elementals - thought this might be useful as a stone golem or similar in Call of Cthulu time games. Years ago I had the wind and water elementals and I noticed that recently there have been a lot more of these being posted on the oldhammer facebook pages. I don't recall these in WFB4e but they were all powerful in 2e and 3e (except if someone played winds of magic...)

He looks cocky because whoever sculpted his jumper did a totally balls-out job and now it has been painted extremely well to boot!

I do not need to buy more miniatures. I am already buying more miniatures and I do not need to buy even more beyond that. No!

Fantastic! Your gothic horrors look lovely, top to bottom. And yes, the jumper is really very nice. And I love Ethel. So much you can stash in a handbag. :)

I hear you! My buying needs to be curtailed, but Steve Casey keeps selling...

The jumper is probably more to do with good sculpting rather than good painting (base colour, inking and highlighting only).

More lock down, more painting.

Sir Charles (Citadel CC1 Gothic Horror) has joined the bold group of adventurers investigating strange happenings in a New England fishing town, where the residents walk with a distinctive shambling gait and have "queer narrow heads with flat noses and bulgy, stary eyes".

One of my personal favourites in the range so far - he looks to be based upon the John Pertwee Doctor Who (Citadel/Fasa) model from 1985 (just as the Drunk and the Hobo are based upon the Tom Baker's model). There is another model in the range which I don't currently own simply called "investigator" based on the same John Pertwee model, but with a different head and wearing a deerstalker. However for me this is the best one of three, and was fantastic fun to paint.

Out of interest does anyone know which came first? The Doctor Who miniatures or the Gothic Horror range? (both are listed as 1985 - although more Gothic were added in 1987).

Number two - and quite possibly one of the wee beasties that he will be encountering...

This is "fishman" from the Citadel C18 Night Horrors range. Clearly based upon the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and painted as such. I'm slightly disappointed in this one - colours are duller than i'd hoped for and I've gone for very pedestrian colour choices. That said I love the miniature and (as with "apeman") have therefore taken the plunge and bought a second one to paint up with a bit more of a vibrant colour scheme. If anyone of the forum has anymore spare fishmen that they'd like to trade or sell for a reasonable price please let me know and I'll happily take them off you (would like a good few in different hues).

Lastly - and only shared for the sake of completeness - I painted up another Cop. This one in an action pose.

He's tiny - a Wee Jimmy Krankie of a Cop - which is one of my excuses for the paint job. That and bad light, and paint drying too quickly...- he's passable, but not a favourite paint job or miniature by a long shot. He's not the worst miniature in the range but he's definitely not the best either.

group shot of my painted GH minis - just for the fun of it

and an assortment of greeblies

lockdown seems to be having a positive influence on my output but many more to be painted and - I think I count around the same number of GH which are primed and in some cases based coated... will they every be completed? will I actually get round to painting the other angel gang members? will I get massively distracted by something else in the meantime? (probably yes). Watch this space!

This has probably been said before, but the minister in the background, in the black with what I presume is a crucifix or icon of some kind, really looks like he's taking a selfie. Crucifix cell phone?

Anyway, that's a heck of a collection there.

Thanks as always for supportive comments - helps to motivate. Am slowly picking up pieces here and I think I now own about 3/4 of the range (just the really rare or ugly stuff left). There's a good variety of models and so its quite fun just picking something random out of the pile.

That particular minister is holding a crucifix - presumably hoping to keep something much taller at bay. There is a second version - much nicer in fact - that has a minister pointing (again, presumably, at something much taller than him!)

i particularly like that bat-faced (i presume) daemon.

He's the only one here who's not actually from Citadel, but he's a lovely mini isn't he? He's originally from Ral Partha I think? (correct me if I'm wrong), sold through Mirlition http://www.mirliton.it/nightmares/cursed-one-nm014

He's based upon Tsathoggua and was first described as "...very squat and pot-bellied, his head was more like a monstrous toad than a deity, and his whole body was covered with an imitation of short fur, giving somehow a vague sensation of both the bat and the sloth. His sleepy lids were half-lowered over his globular eyes; the tip of a queer tongue issued from his fat mouth."

Definitively think the miniature fits the description

This weekend's efforts. Mixed views on these. The Hillbilly has the smallest head and when he's stood next to Fu Manchu/C'mere it's really noticeable.

Hillbilly was a trade and had base colours on already and I lazily inked and painted over rather than stripping - the blue denim dungarees came out good and I like his skin, but the shirt's a bit messy. Still needs basing. The yellow on C'mere came out just okay, but i find its the worst colour to paint - I would rethink that if I had to do again.

Still, progress is progress
