Fighting the Trolltooth Wars in 28mm. Advice please?

Disappointing that you feel you have to leave, not least because this thread was/ is one of the best and most interesting on the forum! But I hope you'll keep us updated about the project via your blog (not to mention giving us more details about your BlogCon scenario, which is very exciting sounding).

Thanks Lenihan, it's great to get some positive feedback on this. I am the sort to always see projects through, especially when good friends are involved like Thantsants, so this project will definitely move forward and still be linked to the forum (via Thantsants) as well as our blogs and the Oldhammer FB page.

First, I'll chime in that it's a shame to see you go WP. Even though I've only been here a short time, I've come to view you as the foreign-brother-named-Warlord-Paul-who-I-only-just-met on-the-internet I never had.

Second I'm on the oldhammer Facebook page and look forward to seeing you there and on your blog. Might it be worthwhile to start a Facebook group dedicated to this project? Where people could coordinate and such? Not a competitor with the oldhammer Facebook page, just a group dedicated to this rather ambitious project.

I'm in the US but I'd love to follow along. I'd even paint a mini or two if the help was worth the cost of shipping.

Why is everyone just accepting that you're going?

Don't go, that's just silly. There's bound to be some disagreements, but they'll all blow over to make way for the next lot of altercations. Seems a bit extreme to leave.

Hi Hetz, hi Inner Geek!

It's great to hear from you gentlemen. There is a growing number of folks asking me to stay and it is of course wonderful to get that kind of psychological lift from people who have taken the trouble to contact me. Thank you very much, both of you.

As things stand, I have too many negative vibes about the forum at the moment to do more than check back occasionally and reply to my friends, but I will not burn all my bridges immediately in the hope the forum can become the kind of place I want to spend time on once again. I will watch with interest how the new admin/mod team develops and how they approach the challenges of a fast-growing online community, I will also reserve judgement on the commercialisation of the Oldhammer brand for a few months until I can see how it develops. I think an indefinite hiatus would be a positive move on my part, certainly until at least after the next Oldhammer Weekend which will give me an opportunity to meet many of my harshest critics face to face in the meantime and reach a new level of understanding with them.

Thanks again, stay tuned to the blog and why not also give the FB community a try?

Kind regards, Paul.

Sorry to hear you're leaving WP. I'm either comfy with the negativity or I'm not reading the right threads. Take a break, paint some models, and come back. :)

Thanks for the kind sentiments Bug! I'm not a forum person truth be told, I gave this one a chance but the experience only confirmed it's not the right corner of the internet for me but I will be active within the community in other ways!

Now then, almost a year since my last update to this thread. Apparently that's how long it takes me to bury hatchets! Thantsants and I have just put in a large order with Black Tree Design which will move this project along nicely. I also have all the minis so kindly donated by Aiteal prepped and on the painting table as I type! Thanks to you for your patience guys, I will show you the results of our progress regularly.

I'm not familiar with the source material, but from looking at the thread thus far, seems an interesting project.

Certainly does. Love the idea of this. Cant think of much to suggest in terms of miniatures. Maybe the bigger goblins from Thunderbolt Mountain would do for a tribe? Would be interested to see what you come up with for the lizardmen.

Hi gentlemen, thanks for your interest.

The source material is 'The Trolltooth Wars', a Fighting Fantasy novel which uses characters from some of the gamebooks (ie. Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Citadel of Chaos and Creature of Havoc).

I'm always grateful for new suggestions on nice goblin minis, I am going to represent 37 different Hill Goblin tribes in the final battle and having each one stand out with a personality of it's own will be tough!

Loved creature of havoc when i was a kid. Must have gone through it 4 or 5 times. Very difficult not to end up dead in that one.
Those FF ilustrations were really nice. Its a bit odd that there are not more Citadel minis in that style, considering how many of people started on Warhammer fantasy gaming through those books. Apart from a couple of asgard orcs, who remind me of the orcsin warlock of firetop mountain, i cant think of much.

So wanted to go to to Fighting Fantasy Fest but all spent up at the mo

Don't tell that that is a special limited edition 28mm miniature available only to those with tickets to the event?

I loved CoC too, despite the awful 'curtains' mechanic at the end, and a big chunk of my gaming imagination is in Allansia when I roll dice these days rather than Middle Earth or the Old World. There is a big gaping hole in the world's mini selection where FF is concerned, hopefully the hunger for all things old-school will change that soon. Zhu's Zagor pic above is a prime example of how awesome that would be.

Cheers Paul - I reckon a little entourage with parasols and sun shades would be quite amusing!

Or you could always just field a tent in his stead ;)

There aren't enough to make up a unit, but I was looking at the Dragonbait miniatures elves, and noticed that they do have rather goblinoid faces (not surprising given that they come from Kev Adams) that look very like the faces of the Black Elves in the Shamutanti Hills illustration...
