New Retro Wave

So, while searching for space-themed power metal I came across something totally different but really well suited for my purposes... mostly background/inspiration music for games of Ion Age and Rogue Trader.

For a bit of a taste, here's a link to the NRW YouTube channel:

There are a few other channels on YT hosting this genre, and it's well worth a browse. In some ways it is in the vein of 80s revival like Kung Fury, so there is some irony and anachronism but it is all really well composed.

So there are some "harder" sounding tracks, as opposed to the "dream" compositions. Overall I think for a bit of 80s auditory flavour it really hits the spot.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but neither is Bolt Thrower I guess!

Thoughts, favourites etc.?

Re: New Retro Wave

so much good stuff on the playlist. Some big hitters:

Ogre: 195

Lazerhawk: Skull and Shark

Daft Punk: Tron Legacy (the daddy)

Retrowave hardwired to Cyberpunk 2013 for my feels, and that's a good thing.

Yeah, definitely more of a cyberpunk vibe... Hmm Shadowrun.

This is one of my favourites:

And this one even has some stills from Akira in the video:

So, basically, some days I'll get to work and slip on my headphones and just jam out to this full ball so no one bothers me. It's great!

Re: New Retro Wave

While not exactly in the same vein and not exactly new, I really love the album They Live by Evil 9. Sort of a concept album drawing inspiration (without copying) on the feel of 80s zombie movies and the (often Italian) music.
