It's a collection of obscure bands which seem to play the spirit of black metal but without the fast drums and shrieking. Very ambient. I would dare say this is my new favourite genre.

That looks really promising. I've got my morning soundtrack now.

I'm glad you brought this thread back, cause otherwise I wouldn't have known it existed. I'm into any metal that falls near the Doom-/Stoner-/Sludge- intersection. Conan, Slomatics, Fu Manchu, Om, Elder, Morass of Molasses, Mos Generator, Howling Giant, Goya, Demon Head, Weedeater, Electric Wizard, Space Guerilla, Iommi-era Sabbath, and of course SLEEP. I'm a sucker for anything with a deep groove and lots of fuzz

Have you tried Ufomammut? Italian Doomy stuff, one of my favourite bands, I recommend 'em to anyone into stoner/doom/sludge.

Lately I mostly listen to Grindcore, bands like Impetigo, Blood, Agathocles, Fear of God, Carcass, old Bolt Thrower, Unseen Terror.

But besides that I listen to a lot of Rock, NWOBHM, 80s and early 90s Black Metal, Death Metal, Punk, Danish Music and more.

I have been playing music myself since the early 90s and been in bands such as Puke Bath, Sadogoat, Sadomator, Ogdru Jahad and currently I play in a grind band called Vomit Angel.

I always get confused with labels as I listen to all sort but my metal or metalish ones Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Motorhead, L7, Lunachicks (Maybe a bit punkish), Queen, Rainbow are ones that come to mind that I still listen too. But had albums by Skid Row, Metallica, Motley Crue, DIamond Head, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Janes Addiction, Gwar, GIrlschool and many many more I have forgotten over the years

Bands? I thought they were Heralds of Nurgle ;)

I am not sure... a lot of vomiting was going on, but also intoxication and bloodshed... maybe undivided ;)

I mostly listen to black metal. Lot's of good BM bands in Poland.
Black metal generally requires reading of lyrics to be fully appreciated.

MasseMord
https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... e-profound
https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... livid-hope
https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... evastation

One of my favourite bands, ever. Started listening to MasseMord in the beginning of 2009. That pure hate and bitterness. Never heard anything like this before or after.

Furia
https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... lska-jesie
https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... a-grudniem

One of projects of the group Let The World Burn responsible for among others: MasseMord, Furia, Cssaba. Very moody.

Mgła
https://no-solace.bandcamp.com/album/groza-lp-2008

I love Groza III (The Horror). Another very dark song that resonated with my mood for a lot of time. Also started to listen to it in the beginning of 2009.

Kriegsmaschine
https://ksmpl.bandcamp.com/album/altere ... ty-lp-2005
https://ksmpl.bandcamp.com/album/enemy-of-man-lp-2014

Another very dark band.

Nagual

From outside Poland:

Emperor

https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.c ... in-at-dusk

https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.c ... quilibrium

https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.c ... ire-demise

Some other bands:

I started listening to metal somewhere around 2001-2002 with Metallica's Black Album, then S&M and most of others except for Ride the Lightening, IIRC.
Then Manowar, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Emperor, Marduk, etc.

I remember that back then I was in really bad shape mentally and basically, had no friends after going through 8 years in sabotage centre disguised as primary school and then one year in sabotage centre disguised as private high school.
I only started having normal classes in, like 2000 when I went to a public high school, but I had really hard time getting to know people after all I went through. But when I got into metal, I finally met some cool people who were into metal, rock, fantasy, sci-fi, martial arts, cRPGs, all these cool things.

I kinda began distancing myself from black metal as lots of bands out there are pornsick or social Darwinist or whatever.

Anyway, here is the list of albums I got:

I had a very similar experience around the same time period.

I have flirted with black metal on and off; I like the sound and (sometimes) the artwork, but generally I don't care for either the "Hail Satan!" nonsense, nor the social Darwinist stuff which comes out now and then.

I'm into atmospheric black metal these days -- it generally captures the sound, atmosphere and artwork I like, but without the extreme ideologies often associated with that genre.

The best piece of metal I've heard in ages is probably this:

'Gnosis' EP by Spectral Lore

This is considered to be "atmospheric black metal" but even so it's quite unusual in style (in a really good way).

That Link is dead.

I like the Eternal Champion song. I tend to stick on "epic music" or movie soundtracks when I work for background noise, as skipping through short songs can be distracting.

I listen to most categories of metal, just depends on my mood.

I'll chuck in Symphony X

\m/ Cheers metalheads

I'm also a metal-holic, mainly thrash (Slayer, Metallica, Warpath (the welsh thrash metal band, now disbanded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCT8gvQckmU), Onslaught, Exodus, Soulfly, Sodom, Testament, etc.) and some death metal (Bolt Thrower (my favourite), Amon Amarth).

Too violent for my wife :| but at least she loves power metal (Gamma Ray, Manowar, Sabaton, Running Wild)
