A meeting by the standing stones (A tight spot)

Following the gathering at Abingdon last Friday, here's my character's take on the events of the evening:

It was supposed to be a simple escort job thought It-him, take the old fart to the standing stones, and on the way back - accidents happen! what could be simpler; but the shaman Urtem as worried, he'd said something wasn't right, but he was an old man - what could go wrong? The journey there was an easy weeks march, only lost a couple of archers - to a bear attack one night, when we got to the site, the old man made his way to the stones, while It-him stood with Urtem and the lads and looked looked around the area - marshes to the West, behind the stones on their hillock and woods to the Southeast, the rest of the field was clear apart from a small broken stone wall to the South - good lines of sight, should see anything coming with plenty of time to set the lines thought It-him.

One of the lads gave a shout and pointed north something was coming - at this distance It-him wasn't sure what they were, but they weren't moving that quick, So, It-him deployed his lads and went over to the old man to inquire - if, these newcomers were expected "nothing to worry about" replied the old man, just then Urtem gave a shout - "South", More newcomers and this time they've brought a few horse, no, not horse, bloody Centaurs, bloody beast-men thought It-him, crap!

Right, It-him turned the lads around to face this new threat, as the old man had said he wasn't worried by the arrivals in the north, It-him nodded to Urtem and jested towards the gap between the wall and woods and shouted "mist"; Urtem duly obliged and cast a mistic mist in front of the advancing beast-men - that'll slow the buggers down or at least make em go round, giving time for It-him to set his lads lines and pepper them with arrows, if, it came to a fight. It-him set his jaw and looked over his shoulder towards the north and hoped the old man knew what he was doing. The Northerners were continuing to advance at a steady pace; It-him looked back to his front - the beast-men were moving around the mist - It-him smiled 8-)

It-him and the lads advanced to a point where the wall protected their right flank and waited, whilst Urtem & the bush-whackers moved to block the gap between the mist and the woods; Urtem cast wind-blast at the centaurs, pinning them, the central beast-man unit continued their march towards It-him & the lads, blocking urtem's line of sight to the centaurs, releasing them to continue their march to It-him's right flank. Things weren't looking good for It-him and the lads especially as the northerners continued their steady progress towards their rear!

All of a sudden the mist began to clear, until there was nothing there at all, It-him held his ground, whilst the archers peppered the left-hand beast-man unit for one wound, then Urtem hit them with a wind-blast spell, knocking them back on their heels; while the centaurs moved into a position beyond the wall to threaten It-him's flank. The central beast-man unit charged the lads & It-him, who resolutely stood their ground, It-him sought out the beast-man champion and with his advantage of spear & mount caused three wounds upon him for only one in reply, the rest of the unit then struck home and drove the beast-men back, but steadfastly held their ground, so has to not present their flank to the Centaurs.

It-him looked over the field - what was happening the old man had gone, as too his minion, the skirmishers were falling back, whilst peppering the second beast-man unit to little affect & Urtem had joined the lads at the back of the unit and started to chant - It-him smiled, now things are starting to get a bit tight - the Centaurs were ready to charge, the other foot units was threating the left flank and there were still the bully-boys in front, lets see - if, their prepared to pay the butchers bill for setting upon him & his lads! It-him called over to the beast-men in common to see if they were ready to parley - no positive response on that quarter, as the Centaurs charged but failing to contact because of the wall, the other units were stood around like the dumb beast they were, so It-him charged the lads to his front, and the buggers ran for it!Leaving him stranded between a rock & a hard place, so, It-him tried again with the parley - to get the beast-men to see sense, this time they responded with a yes - so, It-him gathered them to his flanks and turned around to face the undead and said a silent prayer to his gods - he & the lads might actually walk away from this little gathering, Urtem changed his chant as the un-dead advanced towards them, the beast-men on his right had advanced too far and were charged by two units of un-dead, but thanks to some good dice rolls they held their ground, Urtem's spell started to take affect - has masses of undead started to fall to the ground, and It-him's boys weren't even raising a fist - life was looking pretty good as the undead started to fall back.

And that's where we ended the game, thanks for a great game guys, played with good humour & willingness to play the game.
