Sorceresses Clash! And something about stones.

After getting some more terrain done, and with my new halfling force (of roughly 500 pts according to Warhammer Armies and 3rd Ed rulebook), I decided I wanted to do a quick game to try them out. So 500 pts a side plus two spellcasters to make things a little more interesting. Simple enough. However, one thing my collection lacks is magic users. I didn't think I've really had any minis suitable for the purpose of being spellcasters, wizards, etc. Then I remembered that actually; I've got two minis that are pretty perfect for it.

Not the best sculpts, and not helped by my poor paintjob years ago and various chips, but what we have here are two Pandamonium (an old line produced and distributed by GZG) renditions of Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent. It may not surprise you to know that Pandamonium specialised in 25mm anime minis, normally with copyright skirting names. From my brief dalliance, these two represent the higher end of the sculpting spectrum with that line. However, while I'm not going to say these miniatures are amazing, they are quite fun just for the novelty factor and what better way to embrace the whole 'use what you have' mentality while also being a bit tongue in cheek? I might strip and repaint these two later on though.

So say hello to, for this game, Linda Outside and Nagga the Flatworm.

The premise of the game was nice and simple; a few days ago, an ancient stone circle in the farmland surrounding Orfington had been occupied by dark, shadowy forces, killing all who came near, and making it hard for the fields nearby to be worked. The Orfington Militia gathered in the Drunken Burgermeister to discuss how best to deal with the issue, when the concern of dark magics was raised. As if by coincidence, a mercenary sorceress walked into the tavern, and after consuming most of the inn's stores, said she could provide assistance, for a price. And the bill to be paid for the evening.

Meanwhile, the Chaotic worshippers huddled around their campfires near the stone circle, waiting for their warband's champion to return to reveal whatever arcane purpose he had sent them to take these crumbling rocks for. As they tried to keep warm and keep their beastmen allies, from grabbing and eating them out of boredown and hunger a wicked, painful laugh filled the camp; a beautiful woman walked in to the light, telling them that an enemy of hers was coming to push them from the farmlands, and that she would help them repel her rival and protect these fields from all comers. Ignorant, she seemed of the stone circle, or the corruption in the men she addressed, they agreed to keep her around, if only to feed the beastmen if they got too hungry.

The two forces met in the morning light, with the militia setting up, advancing from the road to town.

While the Chaos Warband arrayed itself in a line before the stone circle, raring to close and push the interlopers away.

Before battle started, Nagga reached into her darker arts and called upon the ancient dead to rise and serve; and serve they did, six ancient warriors bursting from the ground ready to do as their new mistress commanded, and setting the balance of battle against the Halfling force.

Undeterred, the halflings proceeded to advance.

Then they made good use of Farmer John's goose gun and the bows of the archery society...

As well as mundane fire, summoning light into her hand, Linda with a cry unleased several fireballs towards the enemy undead, blasting several of them to boney shards; though they held their magical bonds together.

The incoming fire cutting down a number of the undead and dark warriors.

In response, the chaos warband advanced, gutteral cries of the beastmen, chanted prayers to the dark gods and the wince-inducing laugh of the sorceress floating over the battlefield. The Chaos gunners marched forward, ahead of their crueller brothers in arms, levelled their rusty gonnes and let loose a reeking volley...

...thinning the halfling ranks slighty.

Spotting her rival's fiery mane on the other sideof the hedgerow, Nagga reached for her opponent's mind, seeking to crush it in a mental duel...

...but alas, Linda's annoyance at her presence proved too much for her to overcome and she reeled back, losing the brief arcane constest.

On and on the battle continued as the forces began to close.

The gun doing good service as it pounded away at the advancing foe. More skeletal warriors being taken down by halfling arrows...

As finally the main forces met at the hedgerow, the halflings crying out shouts of defiance as the dark warriors charged alongside the sole surviving skeleton warrior...

ELCh9VA.jpg

With a flurry of arms and harsh warcries, they attemped to force their way over the hedge to slay in the dark gods name, only to be repelled, the thick brambles and stout arms of the halflings throwing them back, holding their nerve against the undead survivor, the halflings staying behind their defended barrier.

Annoyed at her new allies' failure, Nagga cried out a strange shout and three bolts of frost-like lightning flew from her hand, striking into the halfling ranks, slaying a number of them

Despite the losses, emboldened by their success, the Captain-Mayor called for his militia to leap over the hedge and charge the repelled warriors.

As the skirmishers let loose another volley at the beastmen and the cannon cracked once more, the metal growing hotter, but smashing the last skeleton to bone meal in its blast.

Linda saw the winds of magic coalescing around the idiot witch who kept following her, and sought to steal some of it for herself; only to find herself rebuffed. "Figures... there's nothing in that head of hers TO steal!" she muttered to herself.

Unfortunately for the Captain-Mayor, his optimism had been misplaced as the enemy merely held and began to slaughter his men, his attacks failing to land a single blow, as one by one the chaos warriors enveloped his band.

And being pressed back against the hedgerow, the barrier blocking their retreat.

Linda, seeing the dire spot her employers were in and thinking of the promised payment, attempted to unlease a surge of fireballs again, only to find herself failing, the light fading in her hand as she shook her head in a haze.

The chaos warband continued to push forward, cutting down more halflings; the beastmen charged toward the skirmishers who had been peppering them with arrows all through the battle. The halflings turned to fall back, but something about the beastial mutants surging forward unerved them, and their calm walk became a panicked run as they fled screaming.

Nagga tried to raise her undead bodyguard once more, but this time only succeeded in coaxing a single skeletal form from the cold earth.

The situation was getting desperate now, as Linna saw the colours of the militia waver and wobble, the screams of butchered halfings rising from the other side of the brambles.

VgX7XNp.jpg

To her left, she saw the halfling scouts run away in terror, fleeing the battlefield, and noticed suddenly raised voices from the Halfing gunners.

Farmer John let out a panicked cry next to her. "No, you fools! It's too hot! Don't-" and that was all he said, as the gun, weakened by sustained fire, burst, killing the crew in a spray of hot iron and power, the blast blowing Linda's hair and cape around her.

As she looked ahead of her, she saw the Captain-Mayor make his last stand, trying desperate to hold on against overwhelming odds, his weapon glancing off the enemy's thick plate again and again.

Finally it was too much as another of his men was cut down cruelly, his courage gone, Linda watched helplessly as her employer and the last survivors of the militia tried to climb back over the hedge in panic.

Only to be slain as they turned, their bodies flopping over the hedge, stuck on the brambles, or lying in the cold mud below.

buP0VSF.jpg

With the militia utterly defeated, Linda stood there, hearing the mocking laughter of Nagga resounding in front of her...

DsumWrR.jpg

And all alone on the battlefield with the leering helms of the chaos warriors looming over the hedgerow, breaking through the twigs and foliage to get to her...

cdr7cb2.jpg

Linda let out a deep sigh and summoned the magical energies for flight; rising into the air, dodging the odd shot from the gunners, she zoomed off away, cursing Nagga's interference and swearing to get her back for losing her gold and another night's meal, leaving the Chaos Warband in control of the stone circle; but what do these two sorceresses care for the schemes and fates of those around them? Their rivalry would continue for now...

That is a great battle report. It is tempting me to start playing a game or two instead of just painting minis. I would love to read more reports about these sorceresses. Having just noticed how old this thread is it seems unlikely.

Hi I'm Lina.

I specifically made this account to actully make this post. I have been looking for a Lina and Naga miniature forever! I can't find aftermarket pandamonium anywhere. This is the only post left on the web about these models. I adore Warhammer and dnd. And other then Resin models which maybe to big I can't seem to find any models of Lina or naga anywhere that are 28mm dnd scaled.

Outsider is it possible I could figure out a way I could trade or purchase those two models from you. I'm in the usa and I'm desperately searching for models of my favorite charecters. GZG does not sell pandamonium anymore. I've tried emailing them. If you have a way I can personally contact you concerning this I would be so happy.

This battle was really cool. I adored the use of terrain and overall style.

It's always good to just grab what you have done already and have a go at it. And yes, it's been a while since I've had a game or such. I'll try to rectify that at some point.

I've sent you a PM, you may have to post around a bit in order to send one back.

Hey outsider thanks for contacting me the moment I can. Pm you I'll send you my email.
I've so on the bright side there is a resin cast set of slayers miniatures. But their scale might be larger then standard dnd /wargaming minis.

I like the mantic models you used here I own a lot of the mantic skeletons and they're great models.
If you're Able do do things on you're end. That'd be awesome. I'm contacting the gzg people via email. But I'll have to see if they can get back to me.

I've actually seen you're posts on another archive years ago while looking for these minis. So oddly enough these exact minis are ones I've looked for.

Either way I'll do my best to keep in touch.
