2000pts Orcs = 10 Golbin Wolf Boys, 20 Goblin Stickas (3 fanatics) , 40 Goblins (3 Fanatics - lvl 15 Hero) , 20 Orc Arrer Boys , 30 Orc Boys + lvl 20 Orc General , lvl 10 Orc Shaman , 2 Goblin Wolf Chariots , 1 Orc Chariot , 1 Lead Belcher , 1 Man Mangler , 1 heavy Snotling Pump Wagon 3 Trolls.....

The advance of the Slann is met by ineffective Man Mangler and Belcher fire....however The Slann Cold One Rider unit is destroyed by Goblin Fanatics in the second Turn, only the Hero survives. Animosity caused the Wolf riders to shoot the Stickas while the Orc Arrers squable amongst themselves. The Slann Mage casts Invulnerability to missiles on the Jaguar Warriors...

Turn 2 - On the left flank the Goblin Chariots charge the Pygmy Warriors and the Goblin Wolf Riders charge the Pygmy Braves , on the right flank the lone lvl 15 Slann Cold One Rider Hero charges the Lead Belcher. Both armies advance towards each other.

Turn 3 - The Pygmy Chieftain and Pygmy Warriors destroy the Orc Chariot in combat causing the Wolf Riders to rout. The Spawn Band advance having lost 5 casualties to Lead Belcher fire (the Lead Belcher is routed by the lvl 15 Slann Cold One Rider Hero). The Second Goblin Chariot charges the Slann Scouts on the left flank killing 2 and routing them. Both armies are now blocked from charging by the 6 Goblin Fanatics...The Slann general has however charged the second unit of Goblin Wolf Riders on the right flank, allowing him to then charge the Snotling Pump Wagon. The Man Mangler continues to miss while the Orc Arrer Boys shoot at the Golblin unit due to animosity.

The Goblin warriors are hit by a fanatic and deviating Man Mangler rock but bravely charge the Jaguar Warriors. They defeat them in combat and the Jaguar Warriors roll 11 on their rout test. On the right things get complicated - the Stickas are destroyed by the Spawn Band and Cold One heroes with flank charge from the Warrior Priests (who fail to frenzy). In response the Orc Boys charge the Warrior Priests who hold in combat. The following turn the Spawn Band and 2 Cold One rider Slann heroes charge the flanks and rear - beating them on combat resolution - just... causing an automatic rout due to Cold Ones causing fear - the Trolls (blocked behind units and terrain the whole game) - then also rout....The Battle ends a narrow Slann Victory - thank you to Ketil Trout for the great game! ... The Orcs are repulsed - and sent home again without the bones of Galguthry...though rumours are rife of plans for a fresh invasion of Lustria.

Post Battle Arm Chair Reflections...
hmmmm, this was actually the second battle of the day - the first Battle with identical lists ended in the first turn (the Orcs won the role for first turn) and the Lead Belcher Mortar shot deviated 3 o clock ten inches from the unit of Cold One Riders landing directly on the Slann lvl 20 Hero on cold one and Pygmy Witch Doctor/Shaman.

We decided before the Battle to allow no Flying Units/Creatures and limit spell levels. The Slann Wizard random spells were all pretty useless and he played no part in the Battle apart from an attempted cause Frenzy and a failed Stampede spell on the Goblin Wolf Riders.

In the second battle we played the Lead Belcher as being a 4 barrel Organ Gun. On reflection the 100pt standard / 50 pt Hellfire Banner was a mistake to take for the Jaguar Warriors and perhaps a second unit of Spawn Band would have held better on the left flank rather than 15 Scouts.

The Venom Tribe were able to shoot and destroy 2 of the Goblin Fanatics, but perhaps i should have used the Pgymy Shaman''s Lightning Bolt to deal with the Goblin Fanatics which caused a lot of trouble on the left flank - twice going straight through the Jaguar Warriors and preventing them from Charging the Goblin Warrior Unit.

Anyway great to get the Slann on the Battlefield for the first time since 1996 and against a very fine painted Orc/Golbin army.

Congratulations on the victory Witch Doctor, the orcs have returned across the sea bloodied but not broken. Already plans are forming amongst the tribe for another more decisive assault. Was great fun to get a game of 3rd edition in, had been a long time, and very good to meet some Slann for the first time. Your army is looking great, as is your scenery. Thanks for hosting, I had a great few days.
